The Language Question

In the eleventh programme from the series "Il-Politika fil-Letteratura," Dr Mario Thomas Vassallo and I are joined by Professor Godfrey Pirotta. Throughout the programme, we will discuss Malta's "language question."

This debate shaped politics between the years 1880 and 1939. Two camps coalesced around two conflicting linguistic identities; the Italian (and therefore Latin and Catholic) identity and the English (and therefore imperialistic) identity. However, the language question was a more nuanced and more complex affair.
