Sixtieth Anniversary of the European Union

On the 25th March 2017, 27 leaders from EU member states gathered in Rome to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the ratification of the Treaty of Rome.

In my monthly piece for Il-Leħen (23.IV.2017), I write about this significant anniversary. The article (in Maltese) briefly highlights some of the challenges that the present Union faces.

I question whether Jean Claude Junker's "White Paper for the Future of Europe" is too utilitarian in tone and whether the Union requires a deeper discussion on shared values in order to ensure a sound and lasting future.
