Politics and the Culture of Death

Twenty-five years ago, Pope John Paul II published the encyclical 'Evangelium Vitae'. My monthly piece (in Maltese) for Il-Lehen (26.XI.2017) looks at this encyclical which remains very relevant in 2017.

When politicians depict profound ethical and moral questions as mere individual choices, they are abdicating from their responsibility towards the common good. Our political systems are skewed through the use of lobby groups which, in turn, fund causes which might foster a culture of death. I argue that this was the case in the United States on both the left and the right of the political spectrum.
