"Democracy dies in darkness." A year ago, The Washington Post adopted this as the motto of its newspaper. In my first blog for Newsbook.com.mt (in Maltese), I argue that 'democracy' dies when it is reduced to mere 'majority rule'; where the free press is intimidated or silenced, and when the electorate fails to discern political discourse and media messages.
