International Worker's Day

International Worker's Day was first celebrated in the late 19th century to mark the Haymarket Riots in Chicago. In 1955, the Church added the feast of St Joseph the Worker to its calendar. The context of the late 19th century and the mid 20th century seem radically different from the times we live in. Some may question whether we should still mark this day. In my blog (in Maltese) for Newsbook.com.mt, I argue that there is still scope to mark International Worker's Day. It reminds us of the continued challenges many workers face in their place of work and it celebrates the inherent dignity in participating in the world of work. The blog entry may be read here.
