Lord Carrington and Malta

Peter Carington, Lord Carrington, the last living member of Sir Winston Churchill’s cabinet, died at the age of 99. His life was one given to public service. In my blog for Newsbook.com.mt, I look briefly at his career and his particular link with Malta:

"His death brings to a close a generation of individuals reared for public service. He was a Tory grandee – the last of his generation – who helped to shape the world we live in today.

His worldview was built on a commitment to peace and political freedom. He was Atlanticist in outlook but deeply appreciative of the sense of place and history. He was committed to the European Economic Community but was disappointed with some of the recent developments which were taking place within the European Union.

He was a gentleman from another era, and our generation is poorer for not having more people like Lord Carrington."
