Mabel Strickland and the Free Press

The Times of Malta is 85 years young. My morning ritual, invariably, includes a cup of tea and The Times of Malta. The day is not complete without this regardless of whether I am in Malta or abroad. So here is my 'Talking Point' in The Times of Malta (17.VIII.2020) which is both a tribute to this newspaper, and to Mabel Strickland and her vision of the Free Press:

"Following Strickland’s Astor Award, Progress Press printed a short 20-page pamphlet reproducing a lecture she gave at the British Institute in November 1941 on “The Functions of the Press”. Though this lecture was delivered just under 80 years ago, it remains a prescient reminder of why the free press is essential."
