The beautiful and the ugly

On the first anniversary of the death of Roger Scruton, I wrote a piece about him in Maltese. In my monthly column for Il-Lehen (24.I.2021), I look at why his work should resonate with our idea of beauty. I argue that his work speaks both to our surroundings and our ecclesiastical life.

I couldn't resist reproducing one of my favourite quotes of his in full: "We seem to be caught between two forms of sacrilege, the one dealing in sugary dreams, the other in savage fantasies. Both are forms of falsehood, ways of reducing and demeaning our humanity."
